Screen and Design

Galaxy A71

The screen marks one of the common points between the phones, as both feature 6.7 inches and Full HD+ resolution. On the other hand, the difference in the panel tends to favor the Galaxy A71, since it uses Super AMOLED Plus technology, which provides more vivid colors and battery savings. On that note, Motorola introduces the LTPS, a variant of the LCD.

The design follows a similar line in the display, as they have a hole in the screen to house the camera. Although they look similar, the Moto G 5G Plus features two sensors for selfies, so it has two cutouts. The finish of the Motorola phone is plastic and has blue and lilac options, while the Galaxy A71, with the same material, has blue, black, silver, and gray colors.

You can unlock the device by fingerprint via a reader located on the side of the Moto G 5G Plus, specifically on the power button. Meanwhile, the Galaxy A71 offers this scanner integrated into the screen, leaving the phone free of an apparent reader on the frame.

A quadruple-camera is a constant in both phones, but the difference in the number of megapixels is significant between one model and the other. Starting with the Moto G 5G Plus, it uses 48 MP on the main camera, 8 MP on the ultra-wide, 5 MP on the macro, and 2 MP on the depth sensor.

This is where the A71 can take the spotlight, as it delivers 64 MP already on the primary lens, followed by 12 MP on the ultra-wide and 5 MP for the macro and depth cameras.

When it comes to the front camera, it is worth saying that for those who are interested in more than one sensor to compose the set, the Moto G 5G Plus can be an option, as it brings 16 MP and 8 MP. The Galaxy A71 takes 32 MP selfies.

Performance and Storage

In this regard, the phones have in common only the amount of space for data and storage expansion via microSD card. There is 128 GB of memory, which can be expanded up to 512 GB in the Galaxy and up to 1 TB in the Motorola.

The processor found in the Galaxy A71 is the Snapdragon 730, an octa-core of up to 2.2 GHz. Meanwhile, the Moto G 5G Plus uses the Snapdragon 765, also from Qualcomm, with eight cores and speeds up to 2.3 GHz. The RAM working in conjunction with the chipset of the Moto G 5G Plus is 8 GB, 2 GB more than is listed in the Galaxy A71’s datasheet.

The Moto G 5G Plus offers 500 mAh more in battery capacity. In other words, there is 5,000 mAh of Motorola’s phone against 4,500 mAh of Samsung’s model. To restore the charge, the Galaxy A71 offers 25 W fast charging support, while the Moto G 5G Plus offers a 20 W charger in the box. Both phones bring a USB-C input for connecting chargers.

System Version

Android 10

Both the Galaxy A71 and Moto G 5G Plus leave the factory with Android 10, so the update to Android 11, Google’s latest operating system, should also arrive for both devices.

A Samsung subsidiary in Egypt released the forecast for devices in the region to receive the OS update to the most up-to-date one, and according to the list, the Galaxy A71 should be covered in May of this year. Motorola released the list with the phones that will receive Android 11 and the Moto G 5G was present, but with no date forecast for the update.

Additional Features

In terms of connectivity, NFC is the only common feature in the phones, to allow the two devices to make proximity payments. The Moto G 5G Plus, for example, brings 5G internet, while the Galaxy A71 offers the previous generation, LTE. Another aspect that makes the Motorola phone stand out is Bluetooth version 5.1, as opposed to the 5.0 seen on the A71.

As for the unique features of Samsung’s smartphone, it is worth talking about facial recognition unlocking and Quick Share. This last tool resembles AirDrop and is responsible for instantly sending content such as videos and photos via Wi-Fi Direct or Bluetooth.
