Screen and design

Galaxy A03S vs Galaxy A04S

The screen has remained practically the same between Samsung’s generations. Therefore, it is possible to find in both models a 6.5-inch LCD panel with HD+ resolution (720 x 1600 pixels). The specifications in question should cater to an audience that is not very demanding with display characteristics, since the resolution is relatively low, although it is common on basic cell phones.

The Galaxy A04S, however, arrives with a relevant upgrade thanks to the 90 Hz refresh rate, a number higher than the 60 Hz of its predecessor. In practice, this optimizes the image transition, which, by getting faster, avoids traces left on the display during the playback of action movies or games.

While the technical sheet repeats the recipe, the design invests in novelties, at least on the back of the phone. The A03S has an obvious camera module, marked by a black, rectangular frame that accommodates three lenses aligned inside. The successor, in turn, also allocates the sensors vertically, but this time they are housed directly on the phone’s frame and without contours, as in the most basic version of Samsung’s high-end Galaxy S23.

About the finish, it is worth noting that neither phone mentions protection against water and dust. As for the colors, the newer smartphone sells versions in black, white, and green, while the A03S offers shades of black, blue, and red.

Camera

Galaxy A03S vs Galaxy A04S

The camera is one of the highlight aspects of the Galaxy A04S since it comes to market with new features that can attract the eyes of those who like to make good records. For comparison purposes it is worth saying that before, in the Galaxy A03S, the cameras delivered the following settings:

  • Main camera: 13 MP (f/2.2)
  • Depth sensor: 2 MP (f/2.4)
  • Macro camera: 2 MP (f/2.4)
  • Front camera: 5 MP (f/2.2)

Now, they are organized as follows on the Galaxy A04S:

  • Main camera: 50 MP (f/1.8)
  • Depth sensor: 2 MP (f/2.4)
  • Macro camera: 2 MP (f/2.4)
  • Front camera: 5 MP (f/2.2)

As you can see, the significant difference is in the main lens, which goes from 13 MP to 50 Megapixels, which should raise the quality of the photo captured by the newer Galaxy’s camera. On the other hand, both follow the same pattern in the depth sensor and in the macro camera – which respectively registers with a blurred background and clicks with rich details in very close-up images.

As for features, both models have a digital zoom of up to 10x and record videos in Full HD+ resolution at 30 fps.

Performance and Storage

Galaxy A03S vs Galaxy A04S

Besides the camera, another aspect that helps demarcate differences between the generations is performance. That’s because while the Galaxy A03S uses MediaTek’s Helio P35 processor, the successor invests in a proprietary Exynos 850. Both are octa-core, but the former operates at speeds of up to 2.35 GHz, while the latter reaches 2.0 GHz.

Although the older component has a higher processing speed, both should guarantee satisfactory performance when performing basic tasks and accessing everyday tools.

In both cases, Samsung guarantees versions with up to 4 GB of RAM to run programs and work together with the chipsets of each cell phone. In storage, the latest model brings options with 32 GB, 64 GB, and 128 GB, while the older brother makes available versions with 32 GB and 64 GB. The possibility of an expansion via microSD card follows the same pattern in both generations.

Battery

Galaxy A03S vs Galaxy A04S

The battery is one aspect that the Galaxy A03S and Galaxy A04S bring in common, as they guarantee a capacity of 5,000 mAh. The amount should be enough to guarantee up to two days away from the plugs, depending on usage. According to Samsung, the newly launched model can deliver up to 21 hours of uninterrupted internet usage when connected to 4G. It also offers 90 hours of audio playback.

Charging is also the same on both phones, meaning they guarantee battery replacement with support for a 15W power adapter. It is worth mentioning that the charger comes with the phones in the box and features a USB-C format for both the older and newer models.

Android Version

Android 13

The system version that comes with the factory settings of the Galaxy A03S is Android 11, while on the A04S, of course, the software comes more up-to-date and runs Android 13. Despite the difference between the devices, the 2021 model is already able to run the latest summer. However, it will not be able to catch up with the newer phone in terms of updates, since it has already “spent” two system refreshes.

Although the A04S has advantages in this regard, Samsung’s update policy has worked to extend the life of the devices in terms of updates. In addition to the four system updates released starting in 2022, the manufacturer seeks to support some devices for up to five years through security packages.

Additional Features

5G

The phones have some distinctions, especially in terms of connectivity, as only the newly announced A04S brings dual-band Wi-Fi to operate on 2.4 and 5 GHz networks. The A03S only has support for 2.4 GHz. Bluetooth is offered in version 5.0 on both phones.

In terms of telephony, both the A03S and the A04S owe the 5G network, as they work with the predecessor technology, the LTE network. On the other hand, they reserve a slot capable of allocating two chips simultaneously, in addition to the microSD card.

Their structure invests in P2 input for headphones and features a fingerprint sensor on the side of the device. The technical sheet of the models also dispenses protection against water and dust.

Prices and Availability

The Galaxy A03S was announced in 2021, it can be found for $159 on Amazon. The Galaxy A04S in turn landed in the country in 2023 for the initial price of $189 on Amazon.
