OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro welcome hole-punch screen

The OnePlus 7 Pro and 7T Pro took a risk with a retractable mechanism for the front camera, the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro abandoned that design and opted for a hole-punch screen. This move is understandable considering that the OnePlus 8 Pro comes with IP68 water and dust resistance. Another feature that comes to the screen is the 120Hz refresh rate of the OnePlus 8 Pro while the OnePlus 8 stays at a 90Hz refresh rate. However, these displays are compatible with HDR10+ content and integrate an under-screen fingerprint reader as an unlocking method.

High-end and 5G Features

Under the metal and glass sandwich, the new OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro have the latest in the world. It’s common for OnePlus to go for premium components and offer high-end hardware. At the heart of both models is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 with its 8 cores at up to 2.84 GHz. In addition, this processor is equipped with 5G and therefore you will be able to enjoy this connectivity once it reached your territories.

The Snapdragon 865 does not come alone, it comes with the Adreno 650 GPU and 8GB or 12GB of RAM. The only nuance in RAM is the type of memory, LPDDR4X in the OnePlus 8 and LPDDR5 in the OnePlus 8 Pro. As for the non-extendable storage, OnePlus offers two options: 128GB and 256Gb. These settings are applicable to both mobiles and the memory technology is UFS 3.0 so it will offer much faster and more stable read and write times than eMMC memories.

In the battery section, there are several differences, the main one is the capacity. The OnePlus 8 has 4300 mAh and the OnePlus 8 Pro has 4510 mAh. But while the OnePlus 8 Pro offers both wireless fast charging and reverse wireless fast charging, the OnePlus 8 is happy with the 30W Warp Charge fast charging, which is also included in the 8 Pro. Both come with Android 10 under OxygenOS and with connectivity including NFC, and Wi-Fi 6. LTE, GLONASS, GPS, Beidu, Galileo, Bluetooth 5.1 and USB C 3.1 Gen 1.

The OnePlus 8 has three sensors on its rear. The layout is as follows: Sony IMX586 48 megapixel wide-angle with f/1.75 focal length and both optical and electronic stabilization. 16 megapixels ultra-wide-angle with focal 2.2 and a 2 megapixel macro with focal f/2.4. And you can record at 4K at 60 frames per second as well as slow-motion at 480 fps in 720p resolution. If you look closely, these features are a mix of what we saw in the OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro. The front camera is 16 megapixels with f/2.0 focal, electronic stabilization, and fixed focus; it is the same in both devices.

It is accompanied by an ultra-wide-angle sensor with the same resolution and focal f/2.2, the third sensor is a telephoto lens of 8 megapixels with focal f/2.4 capable of 3x hybrid magnification and optical stabilization. The last sensor is a 5-megapixel color filter with an f/2.4 focal length. As for the video, it shares the same features as the OnePlus 8 but adds Audio Zoom and Color Filter.
