Screen and Design
The iPhone 12 Pro features a Super Retina XDR screen with 2532 x 1170 pixels (460 PPI) resolution and 6.1 inches. The OLED panel with thin edges is also present on the Apple cell phone display. On the other side, Galaxy Note 20 brings a slightly larger screen of 6.7 inches and a resolution equivalent to 2400 x 1080 pixels (393 PPI). The technology used in the panel is Super AMOLED Plus.
The differences between the design of the devices are clear to consumers. The apple company’s smartphone brings rounded edges and a square camera module, besides keeping the notch to house the selfies camera. The available colors are silver, graphite, gold, and blue.
The Galaxy Note 20 has square edges and a rectangular module. The front camera appears in a small hole in the center of the screen. The South Korean phone can be found in bronze, green, and gray finishes, and each model includes an S Pen of the same color.
One of the highlights of the iPhone 12 Pro is the front panel in Ceramic Shield, which promises to be the most resistant glass among mobile phones today. Galaxy Note 20 uses Corning Gorilla Glass Victus technology, also with the promise of strong impact resistance.
Still, on the protection of smartphones, both receive IP68 certification, which offers protection of up to 30 minutes in cases of submersion of up to 1.5 meters in freshwater. Besides, it also protects the device against dust traces.
Although both have a triple camera set, smartphones have differences in this respect. The iPhone 12 Pro has three 12 MP rear sensors, one main (f/2.4), one ultra-wide (f/1.6), and one telephoto (f/2.0).
Meanwhile, Galaxy Note 20 has more powerful features in this aspect. The main sensor is 64 MP (f/2.0), the ultra-wide one is 12 MP (f/1.8) and the telephoto lens is also 12 MP (f/2.2).
The Apple mobile offers the LiDAR scanner, responsible for creating a depth map of the location to be photographed to assist in portrait mode. Samsung’s phone brings Space Zoom, artificial intelligence, and optical image stabilization. While the zoom of the Apple smartphone is only 10 times, Samsung’s reaches up to 30 times, but there is a loss of definition.
The South Korean manufacturer is also not behind in video recordings. The quality of capture in 8K (120 fps) represents double of that offered by the competitor, of 4K (60 fps). On the other hand, the iPhone takes advantage by capturing 12 MP selfies, as opposed to 10 MP provided by Galaxy Note 20.
Performance and storage
The processor used by the Apple device is the A14 Bionic. According to the manufacturer, the chipset is up to 50% more powerful than its rivals. In benchmarks, such as AnTuTu’s, the system was well evaluated when reaching the mark of 572,133 general points.
The Exynos 990 processor used in Galaxy Note 20 scored 516,138 points in the same ranking. The model in question is an octa-core and works with two high-performance cores up to 2.73 GHz, two mid-range at 2.5 GHz, and four 2 GHz cores. Samsung’s smartphone also features 8 GB RAM.
Apple does not officially report the RAM capacity of the iPhone 12 Pro, but specialized websites estimate the smartphone to be 6GB.
When it comes to storage, the iPhone 12 Pro takes advantage by providing three options for internal memory. They are 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB. The internal space of Galaxy Note 20 is equivalent to the mid-range version of the competitor, with 256 GB. Neither of the two offers memory card support.
Apple also did not reveal the battery capacity of the iPhone 12 Pro. The only information provided by the manufacturer was the duration of up to 11 hours of video streaming and up to 65 hours of audio. However, experts report that the component has 2,815 mAh.
Galaxy Note 20 should be ahead of the competitor on this issue. This is because the component has 4,300 mAh and a promised duration of a full day. Another advantage of the South Korean phone is the presence of the plug adapter in the box. Apple has caused controversy by removing the charger and headphones from the device packaging after the launch of the iPhone 12 line.
In common, the phones offer a fast-charging system, which promises to replenish 50% of the charge in up to 30 minutes. Both also feature wireless recharging. iPhone 12 also features MagSafe magnet technology that couples accessories through magnetism at the back of the smartphone.
Both phones work with the latest versions of their respective operating systems. In the case of the iPhone, the factory-installed software is iOS 14. According to Apple, this would be the safest mobile system today. It is expected that the device will receive the update for iOS 15 in July this year, at WWDC 2021.
The Galaxy Note 20, comes out of the box with Android 10, but the smartphone is about to offer the new version of Google’s system. According to Samsung’s update calendar, the Android 11 should start arriving in the model still in January.
As they belong to the high-end category, cell phones have several additional features in common. The main ones are facial recognition, fingerprint reader, Dual SIM, personalized virtual assistant, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), and NFC. Another highlight is the presence of 5G internet on both phones.
An important difference between the Galaxy Note 20 is the S Pen. The new electronic pen promises more accuracy and greater responsiveness. To improve the experience with the accessory, Samsung has also optimized the Samsung Notes, a specific feature to organize notes.
The iPhone 12 Pro arrived in the market costing $999 (128 GB), $1,0999 (256 GB) or $1,2999 (512 GB).
The Galaxy Note 20 costs approximately half the competitor’s value. The cell phone is already available in numbers starting from $719 in online retail.
