Huawei Mate 40E 5G: Features, Reviews, and Prices

A few days ago Huawei launched the Huawei P40 4G (a revision of the P40) and just yesterday launched the MatePad 10.4 New Edition (a revision of the MatePad), now the company has just launched in China the Huawei Mate 40E 5G, a phone somewhere between the Mate 40 and the Mate 40 Pro with some modifications in components.

The design of the device is the same as the original Mate 40, but inside it has implemented a slightly less powerful processor than its predecessor, as well as a higher resolution camera. That has also meant a price reduction. However, the smartphone has been launched in China.

Internal and Photographic changes

Huawei Mate 40E 5G

The Mate 40E 5G is the same as the Mate 40, with the difference that it is available in more colors. So it still retains the camera module, the curved display, the under-screen fingerprint reader, and its overall build. That means we still find a 6.5-inch OLED panel with FullHD+ resolution and 90Hz.

Under the hood is 8GB of RAM and, here the main change, a Kirin 990E processor, and not a Kirin 9000E. Although they have the same number of cores, the speed of the Kirin 990E is somewhat lower, so, in short, it is a less powerful processor. All this is completed with 128 or 256GB of internal storage.

As for the battery and operating system, Huawei is betting on 4,200mAh and two fast-charging technologies: 40W wired fast charging and 40W wireless fast charging, so it does not seem that speed will be an issue. The operating system is Android 10 with EMUI 11. It also has 5G, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, headphone jack, and infrared.

We finish by reviewing the photographic section, where we see the second notable change: the resolution of the main sensor. The Mate 40 has a 50-megapixel sensor, while the Mate 40E 5G has a 64-megapixel sensor, ergo it takes bigger photos. The rest of the sensors are unchanged: 16-megapixel wide-angle and eight-megapixel telephoto with x3 optical zoom, x5 hybrid zoom, and x30 digital zoom.
