Samsung told us that it was saving something awesome to show us today and we already suspected that it was going to be news in its mid-range. Something that we have been able to confirm with the presentation of the new Samsung Galaxy A52 and 52 5G and the Samsung Galaxy A72, which make up this first batch of the year for this range.
This is the smartphone that takes the baton from the Samsung Galaxy A71, keeping the 6.7-inch panel but updating many components. Among them, the design, taking genes from the peculiar Samsung Galaxy A32 5G but with a different touch.

A hump that peeks out more discreetly
The Samsung A72 reminds us a lot of the A32 5G, as we mentioned, both in colors and in the back. We could say that it is a hybrid between the innovative Galaxy A32 5G and some other previous mobile in this range, such as the Samsung Galaxy A51 it is as if the A51 module had been covered with a thin veil of blue, purple, black or white polycarbonate (the four colors that are the flagship of the three new mobiles).
Thus, the camera module itself practically does not protrude from the body of the phones, and is very well integrated into the rear, almost more reminiscent of the style of the OPPO Find X3 Pro too) than that of its predecessor. On the front, the central hole for the front camera and medium-sized frames are repeated, albeit symmetrical.
Screen: FullHD+ and AMOLED for flagship
These symmetrical frames surround a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED panel with a FullHD+ resolution. With 1,080 x 2,400 pixels on that surface, the density is 394 pixels per inch, staying at a maximum refresh rate of 90Hz. Not bad, but it loses out to its twin, the A52 5G.
The screen also serves as a place to insert the fingerprint reader, taking advantage of the fact that it is an AMOLED panel. What we do not see is audio minijack on the edges, being the USB Type-C at the base without further company.
Up to 8GB of RAM and 8 cores from Qualcomm
For a change, the manufacturer has not revealed what specific processor integrates this mobile. We know it is a Snapdragon Octa-Core processor, but we will have to wait to check which one it is. In any case, it will be one of the mid-range options with 4G.
In terms of RAM, we will see models with either 6 or 8GB of RAM. The A72 arrives with 128 or 256GB storage options (up to 1TB with microSD) and with version 3.1 of Samsung’s One UI customization layer, and it is also compatible with Smart Tag.
The A72 does boast a 5,000mAh battery, which also makes it larger and slightly heavier than the A52. It has 25W fast charging (but no wireless charging or reverse charging) and, although it comes with a charger, it is 15W.
Optical stabilization and telephoto lens
Four cameras peek through that particular module we described earlier, and two aspects catch the eye. In this case, the manufacturer has not remained with a rather conformist configuration but has provided the A72 with optical stabilization in the main camera and a telephoto lens.
Thus, we see a 64-megapixel main sensor, a wide-angle 12-megapixel sensor, a 5-megapixel macro sensor, and a telephoto lens with an 8-megapixel sensor. With this lens, it gives a 3x optical zoom, all further complemented by features such as 4K video, augmented reality filters, and the usual scene optimizer.
The selfie camera, meanwhile, features a 32-megapixel sensor. A resolution that stands out considering what we usually see in these front cameras, although the final quality will always depend on more aspects.
