Last year Nubia’s strong commitment to its gaming range was spread over two smartphones and the brand has now followed suit with an even more interesting duo, although they are two models and a special edition. These are the new Nubia Red Magic 6 and 6 Pro Tencent Edition, reflecting the agreement the brand has made with Tencent, the Chinese giant behind such popular video games as ‘Fortnite’.
And the thing is about games, and so games, with up to 18GB of RAM in the special edition. And not only that, they touch the ceiling since for the first time in mobile we see a refresh rate above 144Hz and a touch refresh rate of up to 500Hz. All good figures for hours of gaming.

Record-breaking refresh rates to make latency a non-issue
The design takes on the style we saw with the RedMagic 5S and RedMagic 5G, with a rear that is a total statement of intent. Another ode to the established gaming aesthetics, although renewing the lines and, of course, without leaving aside its partner company in this edition.

The cameras are still in the center of a strip that runs across the entire back. They have a 3.5 mm jack and the fingerprint reader is on the screen, being according to Nubia 50% faster than the previous generation.
As for the screen, there is a technical tie, and it is a pity because the Pro or the Pro Transparent Edition could have excelled in terms of resolution. We say this because the 6.8-inch AMOLED screen with 165Hz refresh rate remains at FullHD+ resolution in all models (2,400 x 1,080 pixels), with a 20:9 ratio and occupying (according to the brand) 91.28% of the front.

Thus, in the panel of the RedMagic 6, we see the highest refresh rate in an AMOLED of a mobile, which we expect to see an even more remarkable fluidity than with its predecessors. A rate that can be adjusted to the extent of what the user prefers, also having an automatic option that activates 60, 90, 120, or 165Hz depending on what is running.
Other interesting data are the 10bit color, covering 100% of the DCI-P3 color space, a maximum peak brightness of 650 nits, and a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1. And the one that is also record-breaking is the touch refresh rate of up to 500Hz for a single tap (up to 360 Hz in multitouch, which is not bad either), with a response time of 8 milliseconds.
Looking for the highest performance in the market
Another noteworthy section is that of the expected performance since these mobiles accompany the Snapdragon 888 (Qualcomm’s most advanced processor) with doses of RAM that are also record-breaking. Depending on one model or another we see the following combinations of RAM (LPDDR5) and storage (UFS 3.1):
- Red Magic 6
- 8/12GB + 128GB
- 12GB + 256GB
- Red Magic 6 Pro
- 12GB + 128/256GB
- 16GB + 256GB
- Red Magic 6 Pro Transparent Edition
- 16GB + 256GB
- 18GB + 512GB

To cool all this, the RedMagic features the ICE 6.0 layered system, which incorporates a fan that spins up to 20,000 rpm, and a vapor chamber. The battery is different in each model, being larger in the more “basic” RedMagic with 5,050mAh and 4,500mAh for the Pro, although the fast charge that breaks the mold is in the latter, with up to 120W.
In terms of connectivity, the new RedMagic 6 support 5G both NA and NSA, and WiFi 6E. They come with RedMagic OS 4.0 on Android 11, with specific software to adjust the configuration to the gaming days in terms of performance and available power. Not forgetting the touch triggers, which are inherited from previous generations.
The photography part is perhaps the least striking, being also the same in both models. We see a 64-megapixel main sensor, accompanied by a wide-angle 8-megapixel sensor and a macro camera with a 2-megapixel sensor.
