iPhone SE 2: Features, Reviews, and Prices

iPhone SE 2 is Apple’s new flagship to compete with cheaper mobile phones. For the price starting from $399, the smartphone repeats the look of the iPhone 8 and the specifications of the iPhone 11, whose components are compatible with the needs of consumers in the middle of 2020. The physical button is back to unlock the device, which had been on the sidelines since the arrival of the iPhone X three years ago. With the new feature, the company repeats the strategy used with the popular iPhone SE in 2016.

Sales start this Friday 17th of April 2020 in the United States. There are three colors: black, white, and red. The device already appears on Apple’s website. The company confines itself by saying that the deliveries will be “soon”. However, let’s take a look at its features:

iPhone 8 Appearance

Consumers will notice that the phone comes with a tiny 4.7-inch LCD screen with HD Retina resolution (1334 x 750 pixels). It doesn’t occupy every corner of the phone’s front surface, contrary to what has become the habit in virtually every mobile phone launched in recent years. The TrueTone feature marks presence that makes shades more pleasant in ambient light.

Below the display is the Home button with Touch ID biometrics. The manufacturer says the “familiar design” is backed with crystal to protect the fingerprint-recognizing sensor.

According to the manufacturer, the phone’s frame is made of glass and aluminum. It can enter the water for up to 30 minutes, provided it is at a maximum depth of one meter.

Simple Camera

The rear of the iPhone SE 2020 has only a 12 MP camera and f/1.8 aperture. It has a wider angle, and is a wide lens option for those who prefer to capture a larger portion of the landscape – yet it’s not ultra-wide. According to Apple, the phone is capable of taking Portrait Mode photos, where the person is sharp and the background appears blurred. It also features video recording in 4K resolution. Smart HDR helps you record with more contrast.

The front camera takes 7 MP (f/2.2) selfies and records video in full HD resolution (1080p). It supports QuickTake, which quickly enables the user to lock video recording – ideal for Stories. Representatives told Techidence that the front sensor also features video stabilization.

iPhone 11 Hardware

Despite its old look, iPhone SE 2 has a state-of-the-art processor: its computing brain is the A13 Bionic chip, the same seen on the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max. Some benchmark tests put the power of this component on the same level as some notebooks.

In an online session reserved for journalists, Apple representatives explained that the chip is 2.4 times more powerful than the original SE processor.

The processor has eight cores and handles machine learning tasks, one of the principles of Artificial Intelligence. There’s also the promise of an “optimal” battery, with the right to support wireless charging, as long as the charger is in the Qi standard. A representative explained to Techidence that the battery life is comparable to the iPhone 8. Apple also says the iPhone SE 2 can restore 50 percent of its charge in 30 minutes.

iPhone SE 2

Today’s announcements have thwarted the expectation of those waiting for a mobile phone called iPhone 9. Also, no larger display model, dubbed behind the scenes as iPhone 9 Plus, has been presented.

Apple took advantage of the date to remove iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus from the inventory. They are no longer sold by the brand but may be found in other retail stores.

Price and Availability

The device will be on sale in the United States of America starting from the 17th of April, 2020 at different prices for 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB storage. Here is the price for the different models available:

  • iPhone SE 2 with 64 GB: $399
  • iPhone SE 2 with 128 GB: $449
  • iPhone SE 2 with 256 GB: $549
