The best Google Pixel so far is here. Google has just announced the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, two new models that maintain the Pixel philosophy, but arrive with more ambition than ever. A design that you either love or hate, the company’s first in-house processor and hardware that is finally at the height of the high-end.
Once again this year, computational photography is the mainstay of the Pixel, candidate for best photographic mobile of the year. Let’s delve into the features and specifications of this Google Pixel 6, a very ambitious high-end and under $899.

A unique design and processor
The back of the Google Pixel 6, made of glass, protected with Gorilla Glass Victus and surrounded by aluminum edges, places the camera in a huge horizontal strip. This is a solution slightly reminiscent of the Google Nexus 6P, although in this case the strip is not located entirely on the upper edge of this back.
If we flip it over, we have a mobile with a curved screen and a hole in the screen. In this case, although the corners are rounded, the phone has a somewhat rectangular cut, reminiscent of the now-extinct Samsung Galaxy Note. The edges are minimal both on the sides and at the top of the device, with a small thicker chin at the bottom.
In addition to wanting to be the oddball of the class in design, the Google Pixel arrives with the first processor developed by the company, the Tensor Chip. Google has not given details on its power, so we will update this piece as soon as information becomes available.
Google’s Tensor Chip is especially relevant, as it promises significant machine learning capabilities that will enable better photos, better power efficiency, and an extra layer of protection is added with the Titan M2, a security chip exclusive to the Pixel. Google Talks about 80% more power compared to the Pixel 5, but we must remember that this was a mid-range mobile, with the Snapdragon 765.
For the first time, the Pixel comes with 12 GB of RAM, which can be configured with 128, 256, or 512 GB. To power the whole, there is a powerful 5,000mAh battery, with 30W fast charging, wireless charging, and reversible wireless charging.
At the software level, Android 12 is released for the first time, with exclusive features and, most importantly, up to five years of security updates, but only three system updates. Once again, the ROM is customized with Google, with the ‘Stock’ aspect of Android, but with touches of the manufacturer’s hand.
Quad HD+ resolution and strong photographic commitment
The 2K resolution returns to the Pixel, in a 6.71-inch panel with 120Hz and 10Hz adaptive refresh rates. Being an LTPO type panel, this rate will vary depending on the use to save energy. The glass is protected with Gorilla Glass Victus, has a slight curvature on the sides and a perforation at the top center.
At the photographic level, the Google Pixel has always been at the forefront and, after years of recycling old sensors, the Pixel finally has a configuration that speaks louder than words. The main sensor is 50 megapixels, the ultra-wide-angle 12, and the 48-megapixel four telephoto lens.
This new sensor promises up to 150% more light compared to the Pixel 5. Google had been recycling sensors for years, and finally makes a major leap in hardware. However, while the sensors are relevant, the Pixel achieves its results thanks to the software, its computational photography.
The Google Pixel bases its photography on image segmentation, which allows it to analyze the different elements of the photograph to process them separately. For example, it can analyze the skin tone of each person to highlight their key points, includes a new mode to improve the sharpness of the face in moving images (Face Unblur), and is now able to remove objects and people leftover in the image through Google Photos.
Regarding the removal of objects, the cell phone will automatically indicate the elements that are leftover in the image, such as people who are sneaking in and so on. Similarly, the Face Unblur mode combines a wide-angle image with an ultra-wide-angle image, to manage exposure with one and speed with the other. In this way, even if the subject moves, the photo will always come out sharp.
