Google finally shows all its cards with the new Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. After several years with devices that were a step away from the high end. This year, Google brings us two devices that are currently the best of the brand, mainly in photography and software but also with technical specifications worthy of rivaling the best phones of the moment.
The Google Pixel 6 is a small model, with a 6.4-inch panel. It lacks the telephoto sensor that has been included in the Pro model but maintains its main camera, its own Tensor processor, and a design protected against water and dust. These are all the features of Google’s new flagship, in its most compact version.

A recognizable design in a well-protected body
Google brings us a mobile with a compact body of fewer than 16 centimeters in height, although not particularly light. The Pixel 6 is protected with Gorilla Glass Victus glass and has IP68 certification for water and dust resistance.
The back of the Pixel has always been the area chosen by Google to innovate in design. This year it has a black strip that hides the rear camera, with the flash located on the right side. In the upper area, it has a strip with a more intense tone than the matte body of the rest of the device.
This is a phone with a 6.4-inch flat screen. The chosen panel is an AMOLED with FullHD+ resolution and a hole is incorporated in the upper central area. It also has a refresh rate of 90 Hz, an “always-on” display, and support for HDR10+ content.
For biometrics, the Pixel 6 has a fingerprint reader integrated under the display. The USB Type-C port is located in the bottom area and we have 5G connectivity.
Powerful battery and in-house processor ‘Google Tensor’
Last August Google confirmed one of the main novelties of this Pixel 6: its use of Google’s first own SoC for cell phones. The new ‘Google Tensor’ has been manufactured in a 5-nanometer process and is responsible for allowing the device to perform certain calculations necessary to activate some of the software functions that Google has described.
Until the first performance tests, we will not be able to determine its power, but the performance of this Google’s own chip is estimated to be close to the Snapdragon 870, a step behind Qualcomm’s flagship chip but equally placed within the high end. According to Google, its performance is placed at the level of the Snapdragon 888.
Accompanying the new processor is 8 GB of RAM and storage that starts at 128 GB. The battery is where Google has been more generous than other years, increasing to 4,614 mAh along with 30W fast charging and 21W wireless charging.
50-megapixel camera accompanied by new features.
The photographic section is undoubtedly the one that most of us associate with the Pixel range. This year the Pixel 6 offers a dual camera with a 50-megapixel ISOCELL GN1 main sensor, accompanied by a 12-megapixel wide-angle sensor. As described by Google, the main sensor is capable of capturing “up to 150% more light than the Pixel 5”.
As already leaked weeks ago, new camera features include ‘magic eraser’, which allows you to remove objects and strangers from Google Photos, and ‘Face Unblur’ which promises to outline a face that has gone out of focus. For the front camera, there is an 8-megapixel sensor.
Up to five years of security updates
Android 12 and its new ‘Material You’ design will make an appearance on a Google Pixel 6 that also promises up to five years of security updates and three years of Android system updates.
Among the functions that Google incorporates thanks to the use of its new processor is the offline translation, being able to go to the Google translator offline.
Pricing and Availability of the Pixel 6
The new Google Pixel 6 is already available to book initially in the United States and European countries such as France, Germany, or the United Kingdom. The official colors of the Google Pixel 6 are black, red, and a turquoise green tone.
Its cost starts at $599 (US) or €649 (Germany) for the 128 GB model. A competitive price that could help boost sales of the Pixel above the levels we had had to date.
