Xiaomi Redmi Note 9T: Features, Reviews, and Prices

As it could not be otherwise, Xiaomi has not even let 10 days go by from 2021 to present its first mobile phone. The Chinese firm has just announced its new major push for the 5G mid-range, whose name is Xiaomi Redmi Note 9T. It is a device that aims to bring the new 5G technology to the lowest price ranges, something that Xiaomi has managed to do with the help of MediaTek.

We are going to know this new Redmi Note 9T more in-depth, but not before making a brief review of its main specifications. The phone has a 6.53-inch IPS screen with FullHD+ resolution, 4 GB of RAM, and two different storage options, not only in quantity but also in speed, and a triple rear camera with a 48-megapixel main sensor. The price of the device starts at EUR 229.

A huge screen with a hole

We began by reviewing the exterior, a section in which we found no great surprises. The device has a simple back finished in purple and black and with an anti-fingerprint layer. There is no fingerprint reader, as it has been taken to the right side, thus integrating with the start button. What is striking is the photo module, which is now circular and more like the POCO X3 NFC and the Mi 10i 5G than the Redmi Note 9.

Before talking about the screen, we should take a look at some of the additions we have along the side edges, and that is to say that the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9T has a USB port type C, headphone jack (something rare nowadays), an infrared sensor to control, among other things, the television (something even less frequent).

As for the panel, there is a 6.53-inch IPS/LCD screen with FullHD+ resolution pierced in the upper left corner to hide the camera. Its format is 19.5:9 and its brightness amounts to 450 nits. It is protected by Gorilla Glass 5 and is TÃœV Rheinland certified. There is no mention that the device is waterproof, but it is splashproof.

MediaTek under the hood

What about the engine? Well, Xiaomi has bet on MediaTek to bring his new smartphone to life. This time we have the MediaTek Dimensity 800U, which is a processor manufactured in seven nanometers with eight cores at 2.4 GHz maximum speed and the Mali-G57 GPU. However, its biggest addition is the compatibility with 5G NSA and SA networks (those of now and those to come). In short, it seems that 5G is beginning to make its way into the most affordable smartphones.

This processor is complemented by 4 GB of LPDDR4x RAM and two internal storage options that are worth a moment’s pause. The 4/64 GB model has UFS 2.1 storage, while the 4/128 GB model has UFS 2.2 storage. That is, not only does it have more capacity, but it is also a memory with a faster write speed thanks to the WriteBooster function.

On the other hand, the device has a 5,000 mAh battery (hence, in part, its 199 grams weight) with a fast 18W charge. In this sense, it is worth noting that Xiaomi adds a 22.5W charger in the box that will allow us to take advantage of this charging system. The operating system, of course, is Android made up with the famous MIUI layer.

The triple 48-megapixel rear camera

We will now talk about the photographic section. Although Xiaomi already has devices with 64 and 108 megapixels on the market, for the Redmi Note 9T the firm has decided to bet on a 48-megapixel sensor. This, let’s remember, takes 12-megapixel photos in automatic thanks to the pixel binning technology, which combines four pixels in one.

Along with this sensor, there is a two-megapixel depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture designed to help in taking portraits and a two-megapixel macro sensor with f/2.4 aperture. This is a relatively basic sensor configuration, but understandable in the price ranges we are in. The selfies are in charge of a 13-megapixel sensor with f/2.25 aperture.
