Designed for extreme sports
The Apple Watch Ultra is not an improved version of the “normal” Apple Watch, but it is a new reinterpretation that focuses on athletes and adventurers, with features very focused on offering them improvements for their adventures and their travels. Therefore, this new Apple Watch is not going to compete with its siblings, as it is aimed at a completely different and very specific audience.
The first of these is in the design, with a casing that does not have a rounded front but is flat so that the side frames protect the screen from side scratches. The screen is the largest seen so far on an Apple Watch, and its titanium case makes it more resistant than the basic models.
The design also incorporates physical changes to the buttons and wheel to make them sturdier, and a new side action button has been added that’s highly visible thanks to its high-contrast orange color and gives you access to new features like being able to hand-track laps on a track, add GPS waypoints to know where you’ve passed, and more.
The screen has a flat sapphire front glass and has a brightness of up to 2000 nits, twice as bright as the screen on the rest of the Apple Watch. So no matter what conditions you’re in, you’ll always be able to see the content on the screen.
Apple Watch Ultra Design
This device has three built-in microphones that improve the audio quality of calls, with an algorithm that reduces the sounds of the environment so that you can be heard well regardless of the environment in which you are. It also has algorithms to reduce wind sounds.
The watch also includes a dial designed exclusively for it called Wayfinder. This dial includes an integrated compass and has space for eight elements so that you have all the information you need always visible. It also has an always-on mode with bright red color so it can always be seen better in the dark, and new straps specially designed to be comfortable while doing sports.
The Apple Watch is also made to be more resistant underwater and has a dive mode that shows you on-screen data such as the depth at which you are at any time or the time you’ve been submerged. There are also functions for mountaineering as a three-dimensional map that records the path you have followed and, if you get lost, is capable of emitting an audible alarm to be heard from a distance.
