A beast with a one-inch sensor
We will start the house from the housetop, and the camera is the most crucial point in this Xiaomi 12S Ultra. It debuts a new Sony IMX 989 sensor with a one-inch size, the largest ever mounted on a Xiaomi phone. The 11 Ultra was already one of the best photographic exponents by far, and this 12S Ultra has all the chances to follow the same path.
According to Xiaomi, it’s not just about introducing a large sensor; they finally seem to be getting serious about processing. They have developed the various ISP modules to be more accurate in colorimetry, being less aggressive with skin processing.
The lenses are top-notch, promising to correct some of the current problems in reflections, present in some of its direct rivals. Specifically, they are lenses coated with a cyclic olefin copolymer (COC) that reduces lens flare, especially when shooting at night at objects such as streetlights.
If we talk about the secondary cameras, we have an optical zoom of five periscopic magnification and a resolution of 48 megapixels, capable of jumping to 120X digital zoom. The other sensor is ultra wide-angle, also 48 megapixels.
The hardware expected in a flagship
The panel of this Xiaomi 12S Ultra is 6.73 inches, with AMOLED technology, 120 Hz adaptive up to 1 Hz thanks to LTPO, and the promise of having an outstanding calibration. It supports Dolby Vision content and has a maximum brightness of up to 1,500 nits.
The memory configuration goes up to 12 + 512 GB, with LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1 memory types. The processor, as it could not be otherwise, is the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, manufactured in TSMC process and much more efficient than the previous Gen 1, with Samsung process and very inefficient at energy and temperature level.
The battery is 4,860mAh, mainly due to the cameras taking up most of the phone. Fast charging is 67W (strange that they didn’t go for 120W), with 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse.
Versions and price of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra
The Xiaomi 12S Ultra will not go on sale in the international market, being a version reserved for the Chinese market. There is still the hope that it may arrive under another model, but according to official sources it will not land in the international market.
