Vivo has just announced a new smartphone, the Vivo S9. It is a smartphone that mounts the MediaTek Dimensity 1100, one of MediaTek’s latest and most powerful SoCs, and has been launched in China. Among its features is the AMOLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate and its 44+8 megapixel dual front camera.
As we said, the device has been launched in China, where it can be purchased from now on in different versions whose prices are 2,999 yuan and 3,299 yuan, which are $463 and $510, respectively.

Rear module and notch
The device has a back that will be available in pink/blue, gray, and blue. It is a simple back, with the brand name in one of the corners and the huge camera module in the upper left corner. There we find the three rear cameras and the LED flash. Unlike other mobiles of the brand, the edges have been made straight instead of curved.
When turned around and looking at the screen there is a 6.44-inch AMOLED panel with FullHD+ resolution (2,400 x 1,080 pixels). It has a refresh rate of 90Hz and 180Hz sampling rate. It is striking that Vivo has decided to go for a conventional notch, a rare thing nowadays, instead of a screen notch.
MediaTek Dimensity 1100 for the engine
Let’s move on to talk about the engine. The Vivo S9 is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 1100 processor (six nanometers, eight cores at a maximum speed of 2.6GHz, and Mali-G77 MC9 GPU). It is accompanied by 8 or 12GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 128 or 256 GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage.
All this will be brought to life by a 4,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging and Android 11 with OriginOS 1.0, Vivo’s new customization layer. Also, it is worth noting that the device supports 5G NSA and SA networks, WiFi 6, and can store two nanoSIM cards.
As for the camera, Vivo is betting on a rear camera with three sensors. The main one has a 64-megapixel resolution with optical stabilization and next to it there is an 8-megapixel wide-angle with 119º field of view and a two-megapixel macro with f/2.4 aperture. A simple and frequent configuration, in short.
The most striking thing is at the front, since the notch, somehow, has a certain raison d’être. And is that Vivo has implemented a dual 44+8 megapixel front camera. The main sensor, the 44-megapixel one, has a smaller field of view, while the eight-megapixel one is a wide-angle, something designed for group selfies.
Price and Availability of the Vivo S9
The Vivo S9 can already be reserved in China in dark blue, pearl, and multicolor, although it will not go on sale until March 27. It is available in two versions: 8/128GB is sold for 2,999 yuan ($463 at the exchange rate) and 12/256GB for 3,299 yuan ($510 at the exchange rat).
