Design

Buds Plus

The two headphones look very modest, but with very different design ideas. While the JBL has a profile that resembles the Huawei AirPods and Freebuds 3; the Galaxy Buds+ is more minimalist. This reflects directly in the weight: the former is 56 grams, while the latter is only 6.3 grams.

Regarding colors, the JBL model appears in black or white options, with a silver finish. Buds+, for example, is still available in light blue. It is worth mentioning that neither of the two can be submerged, in the case of some electronics with specific certificates. Anyway, Samsung states that the Buds+ can be used in physical exercises, counting with resistance to splashes and sweat.

Features

In terms of features, both phones allow you to answer phone calls and are compatible with voice assistants like Google Assistant and Alexa. In Samsung’s case, Galaxy Buds+ delivers quality phone calls, as it uses three microphones to better capture sound while avoiding noise.

Both headsets have a touch-sensitive surface, allowing you to control playback, answer calls, and activate assistants simply. In Buds+, an eye-catching feature is an exclusive shortcut to start Spotify, which can be activated via an exclusive brand app.

Neither offers active noise cancellation, a function that is present in rivals AirPods Pro, Powerbeats Pro, and Freebuds 3. Still, the possibility to control the external sound input, available in Samsung’s headset, can make a difference when it comes to listening. In the case of JBL, the design should also help isolate noise, but passively.

JBL Tune

Sound Quality

Galaxy Buds+ has a dual driver system: two speakers per headphone, something that contributes to the device’s greater ease of covering different types of sound. While one driver is dedicated to the treble, the other driver has the function of covering the bass. Also, there is an AKG signature on the audio, a brand that is recognized for the quality of reproduction in its products.

JBL’s Tune 220TWS offers a 12.5 mm diameter driver per headset. This does not mean that the JBL will sound bad, or that the sound is of inferior quality, but at first, Buds+ can be more versatile when playing the music of different styles. Also, the Tune model features JBL Pure Bass technology, which offers powerful bass – which should also please the most demanding users.

Battery

On the battery, the advantage of the Galaxy Buds+ is wide: with a full charge, Samsung headsets should work for 11 hours, much more than the three hours of use JBL promises for the Tune 220TWS. In both cases, the charger case guarantees a few more hours of use. In the case of Buds+, an additional 11 hours are available in the case, while the JBL headset adds 16 hours more, totaling 19 hours of playback.

Bluetooth headset options are not lacking in the market today. Sony, with the WF-1000XM3, also promises high sound quality, but at a higher price of $228 – a range similar to AirPods.
