Redmi Note 8 2021: Features, Reviews, and Price

If something has worked, do not touch it, Xiaomi has decided to try again with a successful model and has presented the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 2021, thus recovering the Redmi Note 8 (or Redmi Note 8T, as it reached the international market).

According to Xiaomi itself, the Redmi Note 8 series is among its most successful lines exceeding 30 million units (in May 2020, during the pandemic, when sales fell to historic lows in the market). Hence the brand wants to update it on the outside and almost entirely maintaining the spec sheet, although leaving behind the Snapdragon 665 and 3 GB of RAM.

A different rear, but same as old Redmi Note 8

Redmi Note 8 2021

The new Redmi Note 8 2021 is integrated into the still current fashion of gradients and glossy backs with these effects more or less marked depending on the color it is. Of course, the rear module is moved from the middle to the left side, being equally vertical, and branded at the back as well as on the front frame (on the chin).

Speaking of the front, the brand has been conservative to the point of not saying goodbye to the notch. The front camera is in the middle, with a U-shaped meusca and seemingly quite reduced side and top frames, with all the buttons on one side and the rear fingerprint reader.

The screen is maintained, without seeing any changes in the refresh rate or changing any aspect such as the screen type or even the design, as we have mentioned. Thus, it is a 6.3-inch panel with FullHD+ resolution (2,340 x 1,0808 pixels) protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and with up to 500 nits of brightness.

The dimensions are practically the same (with inappreciable variations), maintaining the weight of 190 grams (in fact, they were 192 in the original Redmi Note 8). The infrared port and the 3.5 mm mini-jack are also maintained.

Switching to MediaTek and surprisingly fashionable cameras

In the processor we see that MediaTek has been trusted this time, opting for the recurring Helio G95. In addition, it no longer starts with 3 GB of RAM, but both versions (64 and 128 GB) go with 4 GB of RAM LPDDR4x, having a tray for a microSD.

The mobile is dual-SIM, it comes with MIUI 12.5 on Android 11. Of course, unless there are changes in the different variants depending on the market at the moment we do not see NFC in the specifications (something that did present the Redmi Note 8T).

The battery remains at 4,000 mAh, thus surely contributing to the fact that the weight has not increased (as well as the thickness). Fast charging also 18 watts, with a 22.5-watt charger included in the box.

As for the cameras, the specifications are the same as we saw in its predecessor, ie: a camera with a higher resolution sensor, a wide-angle lens, and what would be two cameras rather than filler (macro and depth). Thus, the combination fits the trend we see today in mid-range phones that riskless in this regard.

  • 48-megapixel main sensor (1/2 inch, 0.8 μm pixels) with f/1.79 aperture lens.
  • Ultra wide-angle camera with 8-megapixel sensor and lens with f/2.2 aperture and 120-degree field of view (102 degrees effective due to distortion correction).
  • 2-megapixel sensor for the macro camera, with f/2.4 aperture lens.
  • 2-megapixel depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture lens.
  • Front camera: 13-megapixel sensor and f/2.0 aperture lens.

Pricing and Availability of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 2021

Redmi Note 8 2021

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 2021 has been officially launched internationally, showing in the global version on their website, but at the moment they do not show price data. So it will remain to wait to see how much it will cost this mobile, which by precedent (and almost being the reason for its recovery) should have a good value for money.
