Qualcomm said “new year, new processor” and began to complete its mid-range portfolio after announcing the Snapdragon 888 for the flagships. It did so with the Snapdragon 480, which aims to further democratize the 5G, and one of the first handsets to carry it is the new OPPO A93 5G.

Complying with trends
The OPPO A93 5G complies with the aesthetic trends that persist at the beginning of 2021: at least one variant with gradients (the color “Aurora”), a domino-shaped module at one corner, and the hole in the front for the screen, with a thicker lower edge on that side. The fingerprint reader is fitted on the side, leaving a clear rear one if it is not integrated into the screen.
One of the reasons for not doing so is the use of an IPS-type panel, specifically a 6.5-inch LCD with FullHD+ resolution, a 20:9 aspect ratio, and a density of 405 pixels per inch. However, it supports a 90 Hz refresh rate and, according to the brand, covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color space and 90% of the screen’s front use.
A brand new processor and 5,000 mAh
As we said in the introduction, this new OPPO has the Snapdragon 480 5G processor with 8 GB of RAM, with a storage option of 128 and 256 GB (expandable with a microSD card). Although it doesn’t look like a particularly heavy phone, the OPPO A93 5G has room for a 5,000 mAh battery, with a fast 18 W charger.
The A93 5G comes with Android 11 equipped with its ColorOS layer in its 11.1 version. Well equipped with ports and connections, taking into account that it is dual SIM, has Bluetooth 5.1, and has a 3.5-millimeter mini-jack, although at least in its version for China there is no trace of NFC.
Little surprise in the camera section, seeing that this is an entry-level mobile with the minimum expected in a mid-range. It has a triple rear camera with a combination that will not be difficult to guess, forming part of those that are usually used almost more for filling three or four cameras in the back than for versatility:
- Main: 48-megapixel sensor with f/1.7 aperture lens.
- Portraits: 2-megapixel sensor with aperture lens f/2.4
- Macro: 2-megapixel sensor with aperture lens f/2.4.
- Front camera: 8-megapixel sensor with aperture lens f/2.0
OPPO A93 5G versions and prices
At the moment the new OPPO A93 5G has been presented in China and we know the price for that market. Its version of 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage starts from 1,999 yuan, about $308 at the exchange rate, without knowing at the moment the price of the most basic.
It will be available in three colors: Elegant Silver, Dazzle Black, and Aurora (silver, black, and gradient).
