The LG K61 is a quad-camera phone that rivals Samsung’s Galaxy A51. The smartphones have a similar photographic versatility design along with a large screen with few edges and a battery with the assurance of good autonomy. Launched in June, LG’s phone is already seen starting from $280. The Galaxy A51 was presented in January, but can already be found for $279. Screen and Design
The mobile phones bring a very similar look, starting with the same screen size and resolution: 6.5 inches and Full HD+. They also have the same solution to hide the front camera and leave the panel with more usable space. The sensor is inside the screen, in a hole centered on Galaxy, and in the left corner of K61.
Samsung’s device, however, has a Super AMOLED display that tends to deliver more vivid colors and better contrast compared to LG’s TFT. One of the advantages tends to be in outdoor use, under sunlight, a situation where the A51 should do better.
Also, despite the equal screen size, Galaxy offers fewer edges and is more compact. It’s smaller, thinner, and lighter than the LG K61, which can help carry the smartphone in your pocket without causing inconvenience. This difference may not be so noticeable to those with big hands.
Neither offers water resistance, but the LG K61 comes out ahead by bringing MIL-STD-810G certification, which ensures greater resistance to high and low temperatures, as well as a certain degree of impact and humidity.
The Galaxy A51 is sold in blue, black, and white, while LG’s rival is available in grey and white.
Cameras
The mobile phones come with a quad-camera with a similar layout. Both bring a 5 megapixels depth sensor for portrait mode and have a 48 MP main sensor. The trend is that everyday photos are quite similar, with good results, especially in well-lit environments. The A51 is the only one that can capture in 4K, while the rival is in Full HD.
The biggest differences appear in the ultra-wide camera, which has 12 MP in Galaxy A51 and 8 MP in LG K61. As a result, Samsung’s phone is likely to deliver more detail in landscape clicks when choosing the most open lens. The Galaxy smartphone also takes advantage of the macro lens, which is made for close-up shooting, which has 5 MP versus 2 MP on the LG.
Galaxy also offers more pixels on the front camera. While recording selfies of up to 32 MP, the K61 is at 16 MP. The trend is that in darker places, the A51’s extra pixels help produce pictures with less noise.
Performance and Storage
Mobile phones bring similar hardware and therefore tend to deliver similar performance in everyday life. They have 4 GB RAM and eight-core intermediate processors that run at the same maximum of 2.3 GHz frequency.
The MediaTek Helio P35 in the LG K61 has slightly more powerful low-power cores, but the Exynos 9611 in the Galaxy A51 is built on more advanced lithography, which is usually associated with more efficient power consumption. However, these specifications should not be reflected in substantial changes between one mobile phone and another in daily use.
Perhaps the biggest difference lies in storage. Although they bring the same 128 GB capacity with support for microSD expansion, only the Galaxy A51 uses UFS 2.1 technology, which promises to make the phone faster to perform tasks.
Battery
Mobile phones offer a 4,000 mAh battery and therefore must deliver similar autonomy. The duration, however, should also take into account software optimization and consumption of internal components, which may vary from case to case.
Of the two manufacturers, only Samsung releases estimates of usage and charger power. According to the company, the phone brings fast charging of 15 W and promises to last up to 15 hours connected on Wi-Fi or 16 hours on the cellular network data.
Android Version
LG K61 has a lagged system. It comes from the factory with Android 9 (Pie), previous to Android 10 that runs on the Galaxy A51. It’s still not known if LG will release an update for the mobile soon. Samsung’s model should receive Android 11 between 2020 and 2021.
Additional Features
The Galaxy A51 features a digital TV function, which allows you to watch open TV without the need for the Internet. Samsung’s device also has screen biometrics, while the LG K61 has a traditional reader on the back. The LG’s device, on the other hand, has a side button that allows to access the Google Assistant with one touch.
They come back to stall on connectivity, as they bring USB-C port, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and standard input for headphones.
Price
The Galaxy A51 already appears on the web for prices starting from $279 depending on the offer of the day. The LG K61 can already be found in e-commerce in the range of $280.
