PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) is one of the first Battle Royale games on the market. Since last Wednesday (12), the game is available for free for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC. The game is currently developed by developer KRAFTON, Inc. and has coined several concepts of the genre, now present in titles such as Solitaire Masters Online App, Fortnite, and Call of Duty: Warzone. Among them, a large number of players parachuted into a map, with no equipment, and a constantly shrinking safe area. Free game, but with paid items
Although it has been made free, some parts of the experience are still paid, such as the competitive mode with ranked matches, custom match creation, and some virtual items. Users who wish to acquire these advantages need to purchase the “Battlegrounds Plus” pass, available on the PS Store for $12.99. All players who had purchased PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds before it became free will automatically receive access to the “Battlegrounds Plus” benefits and status.
Gameplay
Being one of the first games in the Battle Royale genre, the main elements of the genre are most vital in PUBG. At the start of each match, 100 players are dropped on an island with no equipment and must obtain weapons and useful items to equip themselves and face other users. It is possible to play alone, in pairs, or in squads consisting of 4 people. During the match, the safe area of the map is reduced and the competitors need to keep moving, meeting opponents along the way until there is only one winning team.
In the early moments of the genre, PUBG determined the importance of detecting your opponents, primarily through sound. Footsteps can be heard on different surfaces and allow you to take players by surprise if they are nearby. When players fire their weapons, other competitors can be alerted to their position and proximity. Something similar also happens with vehicles, which can offer a significant advantage in locomotion but give away a player’s position by their noise.
How to download PUBG for free on PS4 and PS5
Step 1: Log into the PlayStation Store. In the upper left corner click the magnifying glass and search for “PUBG: Battlegrounds”;
Step 2: Select “PUBG: Battlegrounds” for PlayStation 4 (PS4) from the list of results. PlayStation 5 (PS5) runs the same version of the game as PS4 through backward compatibility;
Step 3: On the game’s page, click “Add to Library”;
Step 4: Done! Now you can have fun playing PUBG on your PS4. The procedure is similar on PS5.
