God of War on PC: See launch, gameplay, and download requirements

God of War, one of the most successful PlayStation 4 (PS4) exclusives, will also be coming to PCs soon with several graphical improvements, such as 4K resolution, DLSS support, and more. The game brings the return of Kratos with slightly different gameplay than his classic adventures in Greek mythology. The story of Sony’s title involves the Norse gods and features Atreus, son of the God of War. God of War will be released for PC on January 14, 2022, for $49.99. The sequel to the game, Ragnarok, will be released in 2022 for PlayStation 5 (PS5).

The game’s story follows Kratos many years after the events of the God of War franchise on PlayStation 3. The warrior has retired his famous Blades of Chaos weapons and now lies in a different realm with a new family. When the mother of his son Atreus dies, Kratos sets out on a journey to fulfill his last wish: to have his ashes scattered on the highest mountain among all the kingdoms. However, the Spartan’s presence sets in motion events that bring him into conflict with Norse gods along the way.

The classic gameplay that followed the action from a distance has been replaced by a closer third-person combat system where players see the action in front of them. Kratos’ favorite weapon this time around is an ax, which can be used to strike opponents directly or even thrown to attack from afar – the weapon is recalled with an incantation to be used again.

Players can also equip the Spartan with shields and armor that grant special bonuses. During combat, Atreus will also help out with a bow and arrow that can fire projectiles to weaken enemies.

On PC, the game can achieve more impressive visuals than PS4 Pro and PS5 can offer in their enhanced versions. The game has support for a maximum 4K resolution with an RTX 3080 video card, as well as 60 fps in Full HD from a GTX 1070, both from Nvidia. There are shadows in higher resolution, improved reflections, and more. The game has support for technologies such as DLSS, which achieves higher resolutions via upscaling using Artificial Intelligence, and Nvidia Reflex, for reduced display lag.

The PC version will also include some free DLC items such as the Death’s Vow armor for Kratos and Atreus and the Exile’s Guardian, Buckler of the Forge, Shining Elven Soul, and Dökkenshieldr shield skins:
