It has been three years in the making, but Garmin has finally decided to present the renewal of its most advanced sports watch. The Forerunner range will now be led by the new Garmin Forerunner 955, which is two models, as it has also been presented the Forerunner 955 Solar, an equivalent watch but for the first time adds solar recharging as we have in the Fenix series.
This is what the new Garmin watch offers, a model that also has a touch screen, software improvements, and a slimmer design than the previous generation to facilitate its use during long training sessions.

Multi-band GPS, color touchscreen, and a long list of new features
The Garmin Forerunner 955 is a watch with a 1.3-inch MIP screen and 260 x 260 pixel resolution. It is slightly larger than the 945 and adds a touch panel for fingertip control and map applications. In addition to the touch panel, it incorporates several fully-functional physical buttons.
Unlike the Garmin Epix Gen 2 with its OLED display, the Forerunner 955 relies on a MIP (‘Memory-In-Pixels’) panel. A transflective LCD panel manufactured by Kyocera and noted for its low power consumption.
With an official weight of 52 grams (53g for the solar version), the Forerunner 955 is a relatively light watch and very focused on professional runners. This design has no impact on the battery, as Garmin’s official data promises up to 15 days of battery life. These increase to 20 days with the solar charging function in the version that includes it. In GPS mode, they promise up to 42 hours indoors or 49 hours with the solar charging function. And with the UltraTrac mode, it is extended to 110 hours with solar charging.
The list of new features is long. We have from support for multi-band GPS to new features that we already saw in the Fenix 7 and now come to the Forerunner range. We can add training zones, daily reports, new widgets for the calendar or races, new training metrics, or the ability to redirect an emergency call to a specific person.
In terms of location, Garmin incorporates a new map manager that allows you to download them via WiFi directly from the watch. The software has been completely renewed, although Garmin explains that many of these functions will also reach the Forerunner 945 LTE model. Connectivity has not been announced for Forerunner 955 and does not seem to be coming soon.
Through Garmin Coach, the company offers free adaptive training plans. It has a long list of integrated sports apps and we’ll be able to see our stamina in real-time.
For storage, the Forerunner 955 includes enough memory to store up to 2,000 songs.
If you want more information on running metrics, it can be used in conjunction with a Running Dynamics Pod or HRM-Pro monitor to measure things like cadence or stride length. An advanced running power reading, although this will require the help of external devices.

Alongside the Garmin Forerunner 955, the new Forerunner 255 has also been unveiled, with multi-band GPS support, an ultra-lightweight design, NFC, and the ability to store up to 500 songs.
