The phones are very similar. Both bring a screen with thin edges and retire the notch, as the front camera is in a hole in the center of the display. Xiaomi’s phone has the advantage in industrial construction. The device has the back and front parts made of glass, while Samsung’s phone has the back made of plastic. Both come with Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The Galaxy A72 also comes with IP67 protection, which guarantees resistance to dust and submersion in up to 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes.

As for the display, the Galaxy A72 has a 6.7-inch screen, Full HD+ resolution (2400 x 1080), 394 PPI density, and Super AMOLED technology. The phone also takes advantage of a 90 Hz refresh rate and a maximum illumination capacity of 800 nits, promising sharper images. The device also comes equipped with Eye Care to ease eye fatigue by automatically reducing the color temperature. Today there is research questioning the effectiveness of the feature.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro also has a 6.67-inch screen, Full HD+ (2400 x 1080) resolution, 395 PPI density, and LCS IPS technology. The device is capable of 450 nits of illumination and comes with TÃœV Rheinland’s low blue light emission certification.

The Galaxy A72 is available in black, blue, white, and violet colors. The Redmi Note 9 Pro, on the other hand, comes in gray, green, and white finishes.

Camera

Photo capability is another differentiator between the phones. The Galaxy A72 has a main camera with up to 64 MP, plus a 123° ultra-wide camera, a macro lens to capture details up close, and a depth sensor for Portrait Mode. The smartphone also features 3 times optical zoom, up to 30 times digital zoom, and an optical image stabilizer.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro also has a quad-camera with a 64 MP main sensor. However, the sensor uses artificial intelligence to combine four pixels into one, compensating for any lack of ambient brightness. The device still allows you to capture photos in RAW format and has a scanner mode but takes disadvantage in the other lenses.

The set looks like this:

  • 64 MP main sensor (f/1.9)
  • 8 MP ultra-wide camera (f/2.2)
  • 5 MP macro camera (f/2.4)
  • 2 MP depth sensor (f/2.4)
  • 16 MP front-facing camera (f/2.48)

Both smartphones feature LED flash, Night Mode, Panorama Mode, Portrait Mode, HDR System, and face detection. On the camera side, both record in 4K at a rate of 30 frames per second (fps). The Redmi Note 9 Pro takes advantage of slow motion, which is 120 fps versus 240 fps for the Redmi Note 9 Pro.

Performance and storage

The technical data sheet of the phones is very similar. Both come with an 8-nanometer Snapdragon 720G chipset, eight processing cores of up to 2.3 GHz speed, Adreno 618 GPU, and 6 GB of RAM.

With such specifications, the promise is that both can get superior graphics performance, which directly impacts performance in games and photo and video editing applications. The 6 GB RAM also makes it easier to open multiple apps at the same time.

The Galaxy A72 also comes with Game Booster, a feature that learns the user’s usage patterns during games to optimize battery, temperature, and memory.

Android 11

The Galaxy A72 already came out of the factory with Android 11 and the One UI 3.1 interface. The latest version of Google’s system allows you to use native features such as bubble-shaped notifications, screen recording, and scrollable screenshots.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro left the factory with Android 10 and the MIUI 11 interface. Xiaomi has already promised the new version of the system.

Additional Features
