Galaxy A30 and Galaxy A31 are two Samsung midrange phones that come in a similar design, as both feature an almost edgeless 6.4-inch screen and Full HD+ resolution. The Galaxy A30 can be found nowadays for values from $219, while the A31, considered its successor, was launched in national territory for $233.

Screen and Design
When it comes to design, mobile phones are very similar. Both have a drop-shaped notch screen that houses the selfies camera, plus a 6.4-inch almost edgeless screen that takes care of much of the smartphones’ front proportion. The difference lies in the fingerprint sensor, located on the back of the A30, and integrated into the A31’s screen.
The screen resolution of the A30 is Full HD+ (2340 x 1020 pixels) and the density is 403 PPI. The A31 also features Full HD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) and 411 PPI. Both models have the Super AMOLED display.
Regarding telephony, both support Dual SIM, and Galaxy A31 also accepts nano-SIM.
The Galaxy A31’s quadruple-camera set marks a presence in front of the A30’s double set. The new phone features a 48 MP main sensor with f/2.0 aperture, an 8 MP ultra-wide camera with f/2.2 aperture, which is responsible for the wider field of view, a macro lens with 5 MP sensor and f/2.4 aperture for close-up captures, and a 5 MP depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture.
The old smartphone has an ultra-wide 123° 5 MP lens with f/1.7 aperture and a 16 MP main sensor with f/2.2 aperture. The A30’s front camera is 16 MP versus the A31’s 20 MP. Both phones feature Portrait Mode, digital stabilization, and an HDR system, which assist records with more evident contrast.
Compared to video, the Galaxy A30 is capable of recording in Full HD at a speed of 30 frames per second on both front and rear cameras. The Galaxy A31 can record at 4K (2160p) at 30 frames per second on the rear camera and Full HD on the front camera.
Performance and Storage
The intermediate technical sheet marks presence on both mobile phones. The Galaxy A30 features an Exynos 7904 octa-core processor of up to 1.8 GHz and 4 GB RAM. The Galaxy A31 has an Helio P65 MediaTek octa-core chipset of up to 2.0 GHz and RAM of 4 GB. The phone also features Game Booster, which uses Artificial Intelligence to analyze the user’s gaming and optimize settings.
The A30 storage is 64 GB versus 128 GB for the A31. Both feature microSD memory card input.
The Galaxy A30 features a 4,000 mAh battery. According to Samsung, it is enough to offer up to 14 hours of 4G internet access. The Galaxy A31 has a 5,000 mAh of battery and is compatible with fast charging of 15 W.
System version and additional features
The Galaxy A30 came out of the factory with Android 9 (Pie) but can be upgraded to Android 10, Google’s latest system for Android phones. The A31 runs Android 10 at the factory. There are no plans to release Android 11 yet.
Both feature Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi connection in 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac tracks. There’s no support for Wi-Fi 6. Also, both phones have GPS, Digital TV, facial recognition, accelerometer, proximity sensor, gyroscope, compass, and noise reduction microphone. Smartphones do not have NFC (Proximity Payment).
The Galaxy A30 was announced last year and can be found for $219 in blue, black, and white.
