Elgato is a brand of Corsair well known in the world of streaming and video games. The company is focused on products for streamers and creators, such as capture devices, microphones, lighting (including LED strips), and even chroma screens, but what we are talking about today is Facecam, its webcam product.
It is a device that, in a way, follows the Razer Kiyo Pro by mounting a Sony STARVIS CMOS sensor. Such a sensor is usually found in security cameras and stands out for its good performance in different lighting conditions. Let’s get to know it better right away, but not before highlighting its price: $200.

A webcam for streamers

The Elgato Facecam is a webcam with an Elgato Prime Lens. In a nutshell, it is an eight-element lens made of low dispersion glass, infrared filter, and, according to Elgato, 18 anti-reflective coatings to avoid lens flare and maintain image detail.
It has a focusing distance of 30-120 centimeters, an f/2.4 aperture, and a 24 mm equivalent focal length. The camera has fixed focus to “eliminate common problems with autofocus” and has no built-in microphone because, according to Elgato, the distance between the user and the webcam does not allow high-quality audio to be captured.

Under the lens is a Sony STARVIS CMOS sensor. This sensor is normally applied in security cameras used in low-light environments. This sensor can record up to FullHD at 60 frames per second, but also in HD and 540p, without compression.
The camera also has a built-in heat sink, flash memory for saving settings, and an image engine that, among other things, allows shutter speed and exposure adjustment and has different technologies for image enhancement, color correction, and flicker compensation.

In terms of connectivity, the webcam has a USB Type-C port and connects to the PC via USB 3.0. Through the Facecam software, it is possible to control the camera’s parameters and, as a novelty, to read the sensor’s ISO so that the brightness of the recording set can be adjusted. Needless to say, it integrates with Stream Deck, which has a 1/4-inch threaded monitor mount.
