Amazfit GTR 3 and GTS 3: Features, Reviews, and Price

Zepp, formerly known as Huami, has been launching two versions of its Amazfit watches for a couple of years now: the GTR, which are circular, and the GTS, which are square. If last year the company surprised us with a good batch of devices (GTR 2, GTS 2, GTS 2 mini, and GTR/S 2e), it is now back with three watches: the Amazfit GTR 3, GTS 3, and GTR 3 Pro.

The two models that we are concerned with in this text are the standard versions, i.e. the GTR 3 and GTS 3. As expected, both devices are the same inside, the main differences being the screen, their format, and their size. Having said that, let’s get to know them a little better.

Different on the outside

As was the case with previous Amazfit watches, these two new watches differ mainly on the outside. The Amazfit GTS 3 is square, while the Amazfit GTR 3 has a circular case. The latter, by the way, is made of an aircraft-grade aluminum alloy and is a few grams heavier.

The screen is AMOLED in both cases, but the Amazfit GTS 3’s format allows it to be larger. That way, the GTS 3 mounts a 1.75-inch panel with a pixel density of 341 pixels per inch (it’s pretty big, no doubt) and occupies 72.4% of the front.

The GTR 3, meanwhile, incorporates a 1.39-inch AMOLED panel with 326 pixels per inch that, according to Zepp, occupies 66% of the front. Both allow a choice of more than 150 watch faces, some of them animated. Finally, it should be noted that they have antibacterial silicone straps.

Equal on the inside

Now that we know that the two devices differ in the external section, let’s take a look at all their similarities. The watches have Zepp OS as their operating system. They are compatible with iOS and Android and integrate with Apple Health and Google Fit, as well as Strava, Relive, Runkeeper and TrainingPeaks.

The sensor found at the bottom is the BioTracker PPG 3.0, which has six built-in photodiodes and is capable of measuring heart rate, blood oxygen level, stress level, and respiratory rate. It is also capable of doing all of this automatically and in real-time, although it does consume more battery power.

It also analyzes sleep, including naps of more than 20 minutes, and monitors the quality of breathing during sleep. In the same way, it has menstrual cycle tracking. It also has additional apps such as calendar, remote camera control, notification and call management, etc.

Both watches incorporate a GPS chip, so we can go running without carrying a cell phone. In that sense, they monitor up to 150 different sports modes. As for the battery, 450 mAh for both, but up to 21 days of autonomy for the GTR 3 and up to 12 days for the GTS 3. Last but not least, they include Alexa and, if we have the watch connected to the mobile, we can use the online assistant to control home automation.
