Amazfit’s catalog of watches continues to grow. The company has announced the Amazfit GTR 2 LTE, a (yet another) version of the Amazfit GTR 2 that, this time, arrives with eSIM support, which means that the watch will be able to make and receive calls regardless of whether or not it is connected to a cell phone.
According to Amazfit’s press release, it seems that in principle it will only be compatible with Movistar and its eSIM service. The Amazfit GTR 2 LTE will cost €249 (the Amazfit GTR 2 Classic came out for €179) and it will be available for purchase on Amazon and the company’s website in the third quarter of 2021.

The key is in the eSIM
For all practical purposes, the Amazfit GTR 2 LTE is the same as the Amazfit GTR 2. The only difference, a priori, is eSIM compatibility. An eSIM or virtual SIM is a SIM card embedded in the device itself. You don’t have to insert a physical card, but usually “import” the SIM from the phone itself.
The Amazfit GTR 2 already had a microphone and speakers to allow receiving calls, but that was only possible if you had the watch connected to the cell phone. With the eSIM, this is no longer necessary, since it is the watch itself that is connected to the mobile network. In short, the eSIM gives you certain independence.
Otherwise, the watch does not seem to change much. A priori, it is still the same smartwatch with a 1.39-inch AMOLED display and 454 x 454 pixels resolution, integrated GPS chip, SpO2 sensor, Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi 2.4 GHz, and 90 sports modes.
However, it seems that the battery capacity has been reduced. Instead of 471 mAh (Amazfit GTR 2), the Amazfit GTR 2 LTE has 338 mAh.
Since LTE connectivity is featured that should have a major impact on autonomy. The Amazfit GTR 2 promised up to 14 days of typical use, and the Amazfit GTR 2 LTE promises up to four days of normal use and up to two days of heavy use.
Pricing and Availability of the Amazfit GTR 2 LTE
As we said earlier, the Amazfit GTR 2 LTE will be available in Q3 2021 for €249. It will be available for purchase on Amazon and the Amazfit website and, for now, it is unknown whether there will be several versions or just one.
