The arrival of EMUI 10 was announced with great fanfare last August in the context of HCD 2019. Since then, we have been assured that this customization layer in Huawei’s Android would be one of its most exciting updates. And the truth is that they were right.
What Huawei has set out to do with the tenth EMUI update is to improve the user experience to previously unattained levels. Not only that, but they have also proposed to include a whole battery of improvements to increase performance and efficiency over previous versions of Huawei. Come on, this is not a simple update.
That’s why we want to show you all the new features that this EMUI 10 brings. We will review point by point some of the most interesting improvements.
Minimalism and Pastel Colors
If you want to set a precedent, sometimes it’s better to start from scratch. Maybe that’s why EMUI 10 debuts with a totally renewed interface, which is inspired by the design of the magazines. With a markedly minimalist line, it features larger fonts, new animations, and a Morandi color palette made up of degraded pastel tones that give the interface a really elegant touch.
Multi-Screen Communication
But it wasn’t all going to stay on the aesthetic plane. Interconnectivity has also been strengthened with the multi-screen collaboration feature, which facilitates interaction between our PCs and Huawei mobiles. The idea is that through a simple pairing process between devices, our smartphone can be controlled directly from the laptop screen.
Enhanced Dark mode
As it could not be otherwise, EMUI 10 has its own dark mode integrated as a prominent function of its new update. Not for nothing, from Huawei itself assures that it has paid special attention to ensure the best readability indexes, by improving the contrasts and the selection of color shades that stand out in open windows.
This was something the company was concerned about in past applications, where ‘forcing’ the mode made reading a little blurry. Emphasis colors are now relegated to some background icons, as well as text.
New “Always on Display” Mode
The Always On Display function allows you to display essential data on the screen even when it is turned off, such as the time, date or battery status. With EMUI 10, Huawei brings to the table an interesting repertoire of changes and novelties, such as new colorful images to choose and decorate the mobile when we are not using it, with several clock designs and decorations.
More Fluidity
Huawei’s new ARK compiler is able to significantly increase the fluidity of the system interface and significantly improve the overall performance of the Android system. The company has also decided to return to open source with this compiler in order to nurture the development ecosystem.
Car Mode
If Apple has CarPlay, and Google has Android Auto, Huawei was not going to be less and brings us HiCar, another of the functions that could be defined as great news. This car mode allows you to connect your phone to your vehicle at all times to control the music or set up other functions in real-time while driving. Of course, all in complete safety.

Flag Connectivity
Thanks to the Dial-Up application, EMUI 10 takes a giant step forward in connectivity between Huawei devices. With this integrated tool, we will be able to make free video calls to other Huawei users in Full HD quality, connect with smart speakers in the same house or even establish video calls with the smart screens.
Renewed Camera Interface
The camera’s application with EMUI 10 is presented with a cleaner look eliminating various frills. To begin with, the controls have been redesigned to make the operation of the different functions of the application much more intuitive, such as the use of zoom, filters or shooting modes. An update that suits you really well and gains in clarity and usability compared to its previous version.
Icon Design Retouched
It’s not surprising that the design has also changed in its own applications, continuing that minimalist and simple trend that Huawei’s interface shows.
The menu has undergone quite significant changes, as well as the design of the different icons on the desktop, which incorporate the golden ratio in all its magnitude. This aesthetic decision, while it may seem an extravagance, makes the icons more comfortable to look at and easier to read, in the words of the manufacturer.
