iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max: Features, Reviews, and Pricing

Last year Apple multiplied the iPhone models like never before with the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max, and the move has been repeated this year, as expected. Specifically, the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max are released to complete Apple’s catalog in its higher-end cell phones.

In general, we see that it has not been a very drastic renewal and what is most striking and different is, as suspected, the screen and photography. More hertz, less notch, and new features for these new phones that go straight to try to win the throne of best phones of the year and have preserved the aesthetics that we knew from their predecessors.

A design that sounds familiar, even if the notch is made small

The iPhone 13 Pro also does not break with the design, as expected, preserving the 90-degree angled edges that the iPhone 12 returned. They have IP68 resistance and the matte of the glass is maintained, in contrast to the module.

The screens are 6.1 and 6.7 inches and at last, the refresh rate has been raised to 120 Hz, something we had so far only seen on the iPad Pro (speaking of Apple). It comes with the ProMotion setting, so that the refresh rate is matched to the usage to better manage power consumption, and along with that the notch also undergoes some reduction, like in the case of the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini.

A new brain that promises never-before-seen performance

Inside, they have the new Apple A15 Bionic, the processor that they have premiered with the new iPhone in full. Here they have boasted about the GPU included, promising the highest graphics performance in mobile to date and all the power and fluidity required for the heaviest tasks, such as video editing and games.

Of the RAM, for a change, they have not given a clue, although this will probably be maintained with respect to the previous. The mAh is not the same as usual, but here the manufacturer promises improvements in hours, specifically 1.5 hours more than the 12 Pro and 2.5 hours more than the 12 Pro Max, respectively.

A15 Bionic Chip

The software that these new iPhones will bring is the already known iOS 15, keeping the NFC and the Lightning connector. Also stereo sound and the absence of audio minijack, and finally no return of TouchID: FaceID remains the only biometric unlocking system.

Of course, the most powerful (Apple) photographic system to date.

The triple camera of the Pro remains on the back of these new mobiles, integrating:

  • Telephoto: 12 MP f/2.8, 77mm, 3x optical zoom.
  • Ultra wide-angle: 12 MP f/1.8, 6P, 120º.
  • Main: 12 MP f/1.5 OIS.
  • Front camera: 12 MP f/2.2.

Larger sensors promise more light gathering and thus a better result at night, even with the wide-angle. This camera also debuts macro mode, something we have been seeing for some time on Android and for which most of the time an extra lens is used (with a very small sensor).

iPhone 13 Pro sensor

So, once again Apple sticks to its commitment to the triple 12-megapixel sensor, focusing on increasing the sensor and pixel size, reaching its own record of 1.9 µm per pixel. The larger the photodiode size, the promise is more light gathering and less noise. We will have to see if they deliver on this promise of being 2.2 times better than the Pro or 1.5 times better than the Pro Max in low-light situations.

Something interesting is also rumored in terms of stabilization. The brand can usually boast of an optical stabilization system for the result in the video especially, and now the iPhone includes optical image stabilization by displacement of the sensor, a new technology that stabilizes the sensor instead of the lens.

Cinematic mode (or Cinematic) will allow the use of selective focus and allows recording in HDR with Dolby Vision. Another new feature is Photo Styles, which enables users to apply filters and effects without losing multi-frame image processing. And watch out, the night mode of photography comes to all lenses at last, as happens in Samsung mobiles and other brands.
