Amazfit GTR 2: Features, Reviews, and Price

If you know Huami for anything, it’s for their smartwatches. Under different brands such as Amazfit, they have released models and watches for all tastes and with all features. We have round watches, retro watches, or even crazy ones like the Amazfit X. Now it’s the turn of the Amazfit GTR 2, a second-generation that improves the display and incorporates a blood oxygen meter among its main features.

It had been rumored lately and finally, the watch has officially appeared. On Amazfit’s official website the new Amazfit GTR 2 can be seen in full detail as well as its specifications and main features. A watch that brings out its circular screen with hardly any frames and is Always on Display, as well as sensors for measuring blood oxygen.

The rectangular version, the Amazfit GTS, will also be upgraded to a second generation. However, it has also been officially launched. Recently the brand has also released its Amazfit Band 5, an alternative to Xiaomi’s blood oxygen meter.

Design and Screen as Strengths

Amazfit GTR 2

You only have to look at the first Amazfit GTR and this new one to see the big difference in design. Huami has drastically reduced the edges of the screen and rounded it to give the feeling that it’s all screen. But this is not the only change on the screen, this AMOLED panel allows the Always on Display function, whereby you can continuously display information such as the time without turning off the screen completely.

Thanks to a multitude of different dials, it is possible to customize the look of the clock to display certain information according to the user’s interest. Although this is not new, it is more convenient to have a screen always on or a resolution of 454 x 454 pixels with 326 PPI, which allows more information and better definition.

The new clock comes in two different colors. In stainless steel, the clock is available in dark grey or silver. In both cases, the size is the same and the strap can be easily changed thanks to the use of a 22 mm buckle mechanism. It has only two side buttons to activate quick functions such as NFC or browse the interface.

The watch has not reduced its thinness much compared to the previous one, although, it has more than enough battery and even increased its capacity. Huami says that the 471 mAh capacity battery provides 14 days of normal use. If the watch is set to basic mode, this autonomy increases to 38 days. However, GPS reduces it to 48 hours and Internet connectivity to only 10 hours. As always, you have to try it out daily to see how accurate these figures are.

Better Sensors and Health Features

Amazfit GTR 2

Amazfit GTR 2 also improves in the section of health and motion detection sensors. The new sensor system on the back allows users to monitor the amount of oxygen in the blood, a functionality that we have already seen in the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 or the recently introduced Apple Watch Series 6, which is undoubtedly the star feature of this year.

Apart from that, the Amazfit GTR 2 incorporates the health functions that we have seen in other watches of the brand before, such as the PAI system for evaluating the current health status with a score. It also detects up to 12 different sports for automatic monitoring (including swimming and therefore resistance to immersion up to 50 meters underwater). And, as expected, it allows the monitoring of sleep in its different phases of light, deep, and REM sleep.

Finally, it is worth mentioning the incorporation of connectivity such as Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, NFC, and data and mobile-independent Internet connectivity. Both NFC and Internet connectivity, however, are likely to be limited to specific regions and functions such as China, its mobile payments, or streaming services.
